Welcome to Kids Talk Sleep!
You may not really think about the importance of healthy habits before bedtime, but healthy habits before bedtime can allow all of the benefits of a good night of sleep. During the day, it is important to get plenty of light because this helps with our circadian rhythms and helps our internal clock know when to be awake and when to be asleep. One of the most important healthy habits before bedtime is avoiding screens. This may seem very hard to do, but try and limit screens especially in the evening. Screens stimulate a part of the brain that helps you fall asleep. Next, it is important to keep your room cool, dark, and quiet to give you optimal sleeping conditions. If your room is excessively bright or loud, some strategies you can use are a sleep mask or ear plugs. Another habit that will help provide you with optimal sleep is not drinking caffeine or drinks with lots of sugar especially in the evening. This will help your body be more calm when it’s time to sleep. Additionally, it is important not to eat large meals or drink too many liquids before bedtime. One last habit to help you get better sleep is find something calming that you can do in the evening before bed. Some examples are reading a book or doing meditation.
Thanks for listening and keep growing with sleep!
